Week 2 & 3 Progress
These past two weeks have been a struggle for developing my software for this project. Upon beginning to work with the hardware and software again, I made the mistake of putting a wire connecting to power when it should have connected to ground and ended up shorting my circuit. I didn’t realize this for the first week as I thought I was not able to get my code to work properly yet. I then went back to the basics of the hardware to check if each element was working and receiving data correctly. When I did that, I found that I had completely shorted my RedBoard and it was no longer usable, as well as my haptic motor driver. With both of these key elements not working, I had to order more from Sparkfun and solder the connections again to see if the basic test of the hardware worked. Luckily, it did. I then started building the hardware back to where it was before things broke and I made a short circuit and ensured that no short circuit would happen. I have got it now to work with having the aux cord be the input and the vibrating motor work to vibrate to the input of the music from the aux cord. My goal for next week is to continue testing the software now that I have the hardware reliably working and have backup parts on standby if something shorts.
In terms of user testing, I will be testing on one of my Deaf friends who has been wanting to test out this device for months. I will also test it on other friends that are hearing and see if based on the vibrations, they can guess the song.
