SubScribe is a device that is used to transcribe phone conversations for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. Goal of this product was to create an accessible experience for Deaf and Hard of Hearing to have a unique way to hold conversations over the phone.

I went profoundly Hard of Hearing last year and got tired of having to try to read lips on FaceTime. The intention of this device was to make it less work for the Deaf community to hold phone conversations if they are walking someplace and can use oral ways of communication.

The primary goal of the research phase of the product design was to determine the necessary components for the product hardware. The basic elements required for the device included a L5 actuator for vibration, a microphone, rechargeable battery, and a Bluetooth element.

Technical applications used to develop renders were Rhino and Fusion360.

Process

Storyboard for the desired use of the product is shown above. The conversation will be transcribed both on the wearable device and connected through Bluetooth to the phone. The microphone allows the user to respond orally to the person on their phone. The L5 actuator vibrates to let the Deaf or Hard of Hearing user know when the other person is speaking.

Technical software used to develop the storyboard was Adobe Illustrator.
